The Baoji-Lanzhou passenger dedicated line connecting Shaanxi and Gansu is preparing for the opening of the operation. With the opening date approaching, from Xi’an, Shaanxi province, the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, to Urumqi, Xinjiang, a “high-speed railway Silk Road” with a length of more than 2300 kilometers is about to run through the whole line.

Baolangke is the “last kilometer” of China’s “four vertical and four horizontal” high-speed rail backbone network, with a total length of 401 kilometers and a design speed of 250 kilometers per hour. Construction started at the end of 2012. On April 6 this year, all the high-speed railway tracks were laid. Guo Junqi, the chief engineer of the project design of baolangke, the first survey and design institute of China Railway, said that baolangke was connected to the Xi’an-Baoji high-speed railway and Lanxin high-speed railway which had been opened to traffic from the east and west, after being opened to traffic, the high-speed rail line from Xi’an to Urumqi will be connected to form a “high-speed rail Silk Road”.

On March 21 this year, Gansu section, which accounted for 89% of the total length of baolangke specialty, began joint debugging and joint testing. Up to now, the train has been tested for 48800 kilometers in total, and 10 speed-up tests of single-row emu from 160 kilometers to 275 kilometers per hour have been completed. The upper and lower speeds of reconnected EMU are 200 kilometers per hour and 230 kilometers per hour, 250 kilometers of testing, and beaconage joint debugging and joint testing and other tasks. It is reported that after the joint debugging and joint testing of baolangke in Gansu and Shaanxi, it will conduct a period of operation test and finally open the operation of the whole line.

The “high-speed rail Silk Road” that is about to be connected brings about a greatly shortened travel time. After the opening of Lanxin high-speed railway, the train running time between Lanzhou and Urumqi was shortened from 25 hours to more than 11 hours. After the opening of baolangke, Xi’an and Lanzhou will be shortened from 7 hours to 3 hours.
