Q: In 2017, what new features related to “The Belt and Road Initiative” were presented in the undergraduate enrollment work of Tsinghua University?
A: In 2017, our school comprehensively laid out exchanges and cooperation aimed at “The Belt and Road Initiative” countries. In the enrollment of undergraduate international students, nearly 30 publicity and exchange activities have been carried out in countries along the “Belt and Road”, such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, and many outstanding professors from Tsinghua University have been invited to patrol the lectures, spreading Chinese university culture and spirit and introducing the latest scientific research achievements have expanded the coverage and influence of Chinese higher education in the local area.
According to the admission data of 2017 international students, the number of students from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative reached 140, a record high. Five famous Malaysian entrepreneurs also donated money to set up a Tsinghua Malaysia scholarship to fund Malaysian students studying in Tsinghua. In the future, there will be sufficient potential for educational cooperation and exchanges facing “the Belt and Road Initiative.

Postgraduate: Project extension and deep cooperation
Q: The construction of “The Belt and Road Initiative” requires a large number of high-end practical talents. For this reason, what related projects have Tsinghua University launched?
A: Tsinghua University is committed to promoting the international practice project of “The Belt and Road Initiative” construction. In the summer of 2016, we established the overseas base of social practice in the compulsory link of doctoral students in Tsinghua University for the first time, and sent the first team of social practice to Africa and Kenya to invest in the construction of the first newly-built railway-mengnei railway for nearly a hundred years. Students combine social practice with the strategy of serving the country, establish a correct understanding of the development trend of the world and China in the process of practice, and obtain good response.
On the basis of the pilot, in 2017, we jointly built more than 30 doctoral compulsory social practice overseas projects with Chinese-funded enterprises along the Belt and Road Initiative, and selected outstanding graduate students to go overseas to carry out compulsory social practice, cultivate high-level international talents in serving the construction of “The Belt and Road Initiative.

Continuing Education: cross-border cooperation and diversified innovation
Q: In the field of continuing education, what explorations have Tsinghua University made related to “The Belt and Road Initiative?
A: Since 2015, Tsinghua University has held 12 training programs related to “The Belt and Road Initiative”, such as the “The Belt and Road Initiative” international investment and financing PPP Summit Forum of Civil Engineering Department, the financial leadership training program for developing countries of the Institute of Finance, the Indonesian entrepreneur “pilot program” business management personnel training program of the Institute of Economics and Management, etc., trained more than 500 students.
